Challenges on AWS – Big Data & NoSQL Databases
It is impossible to ignore the major impact AWS has had on all companies in the 11 years since Amazon released what initially was referred to almost as a footnote in Amazon’s internal infrastructure plans.
AWS grew beyond simple storage and elastic compute to offer managed services such as RDS (Relational Database Service) and EMR (Elastic MapReduce) aimed at simplifying the deployment and management of databases – the most complex part of legacy as well as modern software stacks.
However, large complex enterprises looking to take advantage of the scale and ease of use of AWS as IaaS for NoSQL databases and Big Data pipelines and data flows still struggle with the very basics – from ensuring data high availability, predictable performance, lifecycle management to building their own “as a Service” or DevOps enabled architectures.
Learning about these challenges from customers and partners exploring cloud options, it is apparent that these are exactly the specialties that major US enterprises have been taking advantage of in the Robin Cloud Platform in their own datacenters using commodity hardware.
Robin Flies Onto AWS
Today we are proud to announce that Robin Cloud Platform is generally available on Amazon Web Services. We have been running on AWS for sandboxes for some time now and decided to make the Community Edition AWS publicly available for dev teams seeking a simplified and agile platform to design, stage, test and run their data-rich applications.
We readily admit that we are not the first solution attempting to help enterprises with running databases and big data in the cloud (beyond even Amazon’s own offerings). However, if you have tried any of the existing solutions you are probably facing similar challenges that the people we talked to face; stuck with years of scripting to pull together various components and repeatedly provide partial solutions for the same essential features for each use case.
If you are ready to move past the missed deadlines, costly compromises, and esoteric knowledge required for each deployment, then Robin Cloud Platform is perfect for you.
Community Edition AWS Value
Robin Cloud Platform on AWS understands the topology of your entire data pipeline regardless of the components. Time-consuming complex tasks such as moving workloads amongst EC2 instances while maintaining data persistency, thin cloning clusters for dev/test, upgrading applications and deploying entire pipelines in minutes become the same push-button experience across all enterprise applications.
Don’t take our word for it, take it for a spin – it is FREE
We are simultaneously releasing a completely free Community Edition allowing you to run any use case up to 5 EC2 nodes (there is no limitation on the EC2 node configuration). This is powerful. Most people think of right sizing EC2 instances to one workload. With Robin, you can virtualize EC2 at native speeds running multiple workloads on the same instance.

Robin Cloud Platform (RCP) – Community Edition (CE)
RCP CE comes pre-populated with bundles for Cassandra, Hadoop, ElasticSearch (ELK), Spark, and MongoDB that are ready to be deployed immediately.
Try spinning up a Cassandra cluster, make a snapshot and a clone. You will have 2 fully functioning clusters running in minutes using on the space delta of the writes made after the clone. Both running on the same instances.Need to evacuate an EC2 instance? You can use Robin relocate to automatically move your workload to a new instance.
